What the car is (September 2026)

France's best-selling car, now in a generational handover: the Clio 5 (2019–2025, facelifted April 2023) is the one with the owner record — 1.0/1.3 TCe petrols, 1.5 dCi diesel (phased out), and the 1.6 E-Tech full hybrid (140→145 PS) with Renault's unusual 4-speed dog-clutch multimode gearbox. Support reality

Enormous Renault network across France and Southern Europe; gearbox replacements are being done under warranty (including the expensive box swap), which is the good news. The bad news: 4–8 week parts lead times for hybrid-specific parts (carverif), 2-month shop stays reported, and hybrid competence collapses outside the core EU markets — the Algeria case is the cautionary tale. "Up to 80% electric driving in the city" is Renault's headline stat; it collapses the moment you touch the climate controls (per early-owner testing) — a WLTP-shaped truth.

Model-year timeline 2021–2026

Sweet-spot year: 2024 — why: late facelift Clio 5, most sorted E-Tech 145 with the known issues mapped and fixed under warranty, pre-generational-change pricing on the used market. Years to skip: 2020–2021 E-Tech (early multimode teething, Onduflex alerts, discharge issues); 2026 Clio 6 (first-year new 1.8 hybrid + new electronics, early consumption complaints, no long-term record).
