Lynk & Co 08 — Research File (September 2026)

What the car is (September 2026)

Mid-size 5-seat plug-in hybrid SUV — Lynk & Co's premium PHEV flagship and the brand's biggest global bet. Launched in China September 2023 as the 08 EM-P; on sale in 30+ countries by September 2026 with 200,000 cumulative global deliveries announced September 16, 2026. CMA Evo platform (Volvo-adjacent). Powertrain: 1.5T turbo petrol + electric motors, 257 kW system output, 39.6 kWh battery (China) — Europe gets the long-range PHEV with 200 km WLTP electric range (the longest of any PHEV sold in Europe) and 1,100+ km combined, plus DC fast charging (10–80% in 33 min — a PHEV first in Europe). Premium cabin: Nappa leather, massaging seats, 15.4-inch screen, 23-speaker Harman Kardon. 5-star Euro NCAP (September 2025 — highest overall score of any PHEV tested that year). China pricing: from RMB 175,800 (2026 model, cut from 185,800); 230 Long-Range Max at 188,800 yuan (June 2026). Europe: from €52,995 (Core) / €56,995 (More), deliveries from June 2025. Also strong in Mexico, Morocco, Tunisia (top premium-PHEV rankings). Not sold in the US (a possible Zeekr-badged Australia entry is rumored, UNVERIFIED).

Social-first owner evidence (primary layer)

Sales-strong, owner-voice-thin. China delivered ~169,000 units domestically by mid-2025 (China EV DataTracker) but China-platform owner evidence is inaccessible. European owner evidence is thin: the car has been on sale in the EU only since June 2025, and public owner-forum/forum-voice through accessible tools is sparse. What exists: the ArenaEV long-form review (critical, detailed), YouTube first-looks, and company PR. Threads/Instagram/Facebook direct search yielded nothing substantive (tool infrastructure failure; disclosed honestly).

What reviewers/early owners praise: genuine 200 km electric range that turns most weeks into EV weeks; DC fast charging on a PHEV — "bridges the gap to fully electric mobility" (CEO claim, but the hardware is real); premium interior execution; one of the best surround-camera systems in the industry ("makes maneuvering the big 08 a very easy task," ArenaEV); soft ride that shrugs off small bumps; Euro NCAP's top PHEV safety score.

What they complain about (ArenaEV long-form review + press):

  1. The petrol engine is a reluctant participant. "At very high RPM the engine starts making a lot of noise and even causes some vibrations in the cabin... Driving while using only the petrol engine feels like a compromise as it is underpowered for the bulky 08. It is clearly intended to be used primarily as a generator." The 3-speed DHT transmission "underlines this impression."
  2. ADAS is a chore to silence. "The ADAS systems are not as easy to disable as on some European rivals... turning them off happens individually and requires multiple touches and confirmations. At this point it becomes a chore."
  3. Ride composure limits: larger bumps "shake the body and disturb the quiet interior quite noticeably" despite the soft setup.
  4. The value question in Europe: €53k+ before options pitches it against the BMW X3, Volvo XC60, and Mazda CX-60 — cars with decades of dealer networks and residuals. The China price (€-equivalent ~€23k at 175,800 RMB) makes the European premium stark (tariffs + positioning).

Community flavor: too early for a community. The 200,000-delivery milestone is real volume, but the European owner conversation hasn't formed yet — press and PR fill the space.

Reliability record

No documented failure pattern — and no long-term data either. The EM-P powertrain is Geely's mass-market hybrid hardware shared across the group (Galaxy/Lynk & Co lineups), which is reassuring in principle but UNVERIFIED as an 08-specific reliability claim. The 540,000 km highest-mileage individual vehicle cited in company PR is a PR figure, not an independent observation. First-year China cars (Sept 2023+) are now three years old with no documented epidemic — cautiously positive, but owner-voice evidence is inaccessible so this stays Tier 2.

Support reality

Improving but unproven in Europe. The September 2025 Volvo Cars exclusive-importer deal covers Lynk & Co's European operations including the 08 — theoretically the strongest service backing any Chinese brand has in Europe. But as of September 2026 the transition is fresh, the 08's dealer footprint is small (clubs + selected retailers), and long-term parts/residual evidence doesn't exist. China: full Geely service network. Mexico/Morocco/Tunisia: distributor-led, early days. Resale: completely unproven in Europe; PHEV residuals generally are softening as BEVs take over — a structural headwind worth naming.

Hype flags

Heavy PR layer — flagged explicitly. The September 2026 "200,000 global deliveries" announcement was syndicated across dozens of identical PR-wire outlets (marketersmedia) with identical copy — including the Dakar 2026 expedition vehicle claim, the 4.4-billion-km owner figure, and the "400,000 prevented accidents" stat. None of it is independently verifiable; treat as company claims. CEO quotes ("game-changing milestone," "revolutionary") are marketing. The Euro NCAP 5-star and "highest PHEV score of 2025" are independently earned and real. No astroturfed owner reviews detected — but note the owner voice is largely absent, which is itself a signal.

Model-year timeline 2021–2026

| Year | Generation / facelift | Powertrain / battery / motor changes | Reliability notes | Recalls / TSBs | Used price band | | 2021 | — (model didn't exist) | — | — | — | — | | 2022 | — | — | — | — | — | | 2023 | 08 EM-P launched China (Sept) | 1.5T + motors, 39.6 kWh, 257 kW system | First-year China cars; China signal inaccessible | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2024 | Minor updates (China) | — | No documented failure pattern | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2025 | Minor update; 2026 model announced (Sept, price cut to 175,800 RMB); EU launch June 2025 (€52,995–56,995, 200 km WLTP, DC fast charge); Euro NCAP 5-star (Sept, top PHEV score); Volvo exclusive EU importer deal (Sept) | 2026 model: 230 Long-Range Max variant added (Jan 2026, 188,800 yuan) | Engine-noise/vibration and ADAS-disable complaints (press) | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2026 | 200,000 global deliveries (Sept); Dakar expedition PR; Turin Auto Show debut | 230 km EV variant (China) | Too new for long-term data | None documented | UNVERIFIED |

Sweet-spot year: 2025 (EU cars) / 2025+ (China) — why: debugged EM-P hardware, Euro NCAP 5-star car, Volvo-backed distribution transition, and the 2026-model price cut improves the China value case. Years to skip: 2023 — why: first-year China car, earliest EM-P calibration, no European homologation or support story. For EU buyers there is no older car to avoid — 2025 is the start.
