Leapmotor T03 — Research File (September 2026)

What the car is (September 2026)

A-segment electric city car from Leapmotor, sold in Europe through Leapmotor International — the Stellantis JV (Stellantis holds ~21%). FWD, 70 kW (95 hp), 37.3 kWh battery, 265 km WLTP, 30–80% DC charging in 36 minutes. Europe pricing: under €20,000 (Romania €20,000, €15,000 after Romanian incentives; UK from £14,495 in 2026); China price is roughly half that (¥60,000–¥75,000). Initial EU supply was Chinese-built; Stellantis assembled SKD kits at Tychy, Poland, from 2024 to chase the French EV bonus — suspended in early 2025 after France changed the rule from "assembly site" to "production site" (Jan 2025); Tychy finishes remaining kits, then the T03 is fully China-imported again, bonus-less. On sale through ~400–500 Stellantis outlets across 13 EU countries + UK from September 2024. NOT sold in the US.

Social-first owner evidence (primary layer)

Threads search: two hits — one EV creator noting "Starting to see a lot of these Leapmotor T03 on the road here in Italy" (2026), another a Jordan giveaway promo. No owner-discussion threads. Facebook group search returned no accessible public groups via the available tooling. Instagram: nothing substantive through accessible tools. Accessible evidence is press + review-site owners + Trustpilot:

  • UK press (Autocar 2026, RAC, TechRadar): genuinely more polished than a Dacia Spring — better finish, more performance, bigger kit list. Same two complaints everywhere: (1) no Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (promised via OTA, "not guaranteed" per RAC), clunky native nav, Bluetooth dropping; (2) intrusive ADAS that can only be switched off when parked — Autocar's driver-attention system flashed a warning every time the tester yawned, with a "high-pitched chime... dangerously distracting." Also: no rear wiper, tiny rear window, USB-A only, confusing menus, driver display not configurable.
  • PistonHeads UK (Dec 2025, Readers' Cars thread): owner-adjacent discussion — better door-shut solidity than the Spring, "quite nicely done" interior, but the Spring comparison is constant; Spring is cheaper (£12.25k–£13.25k) and has CarPlay while the T03 has no crash rating at all (never tested by Euro NCAP).
  • Trustpilot (leapmotor.net, 24 reviews): the horror file — a UK T03 buyer whose new car had a dead screen ("we could drive it but blind. No speed, no warning, nothing") waited 5+ weeks with no replacement car and Leapmotor refusing an exchange; another couldn't connect the app ("support keep telling me an ongoing process"); a C10 lessee waited ~6 weeks for a windscreen with "no replacement windscreens in the whole of UK." Parts and customer-service infrastructure is the weakest of any car here.
  • China owners (BitAuto, 5 owners): generally satisfied with running costs and space; complaints: no front centre armrest (tiring on long drives), poor sound insulation above 80 km/h, real-world range ~70% of claimed, missing features for the price.

Reliability record

No formal ratings. Mechanical drivetrain: no failure pattern — simple FWD city car, and Leapmotor has 1.55M+ cars on the road globally with strong 2026 growth (+95% H1). The documented problem cases are aftercare: the Trustpilot screen-death case (5 weeks, no loan car), app-connection failures, parts desert (6-week windscreen). Electronics, not motors — but the support infrastructure around the electronics is what turns a niggle into a month without a car.

Support reality

EU/UK: sold and serviced through Stellantis' network — on paper the widest footprint of any Chinese brand here. In practice, UK parts availability is dire per Trustpilot (windscreens: one unit had to come from Italy; dealers point at Leapmotor, Leapmotor points away). France pre-Stellantis owners: orphaned — the old French importer (SN Diffusion/EVE) was cut out in May 2024 and sued Stellantis. China: mature. The JV dealer footprint is real, but the parts pipeline behind it clearly isn't yet.

Hype flags

The InsideEVs headline said it: "The Leapmotor T03 Is Good Enough To Make Stellantis Admit Defeat." The price is the marketing (£14,495 UK, €49/month lease deals in Germany in 2026 — Carscoops). Watch the incentive story: the Poland SKD assembly was a bonus-chasing exercise that died when France moved the goalposts, and the German €49 lease is incentive-subsidised. The car is genuinely cheap; the cheapness does some PR heavy lifting.

Model-year timeline 2021–2026

| Year | Generation / facelift | Powertrain / battery / motor changes | Reliability notes | Recalls / TSBs | Used price band | | 2021 | China launch (2020 as T03) | 31 kWh early cars → 38 kWh later | China-market only; no export data | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2022 | China only | 41 kWh battery option | No export data | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2023 | China only; France pre-Stellantis imports | Same hardware | French early imports orphaned by Stellantis (May 2024) | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2024 | EU launch (Sep 2024) via Stellantis; Poland SKD assembly starts | EU spec: 37.3 kWh, 265 km WLTP, 70 kW | First EU batch: app-connection and screen-death cases (Trustpilot) | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2025 | Poland SKD suspended; fully China-imported; France bonus lost | No hardware change | Parts-pipeline horror stories (6-week windscreen) | None documented | UNVERIFIED | | 2026 | UK £14,495; German €49/mo lease; B10 moves to Zaragoza, Spain | No T03 hardware change; possible A-series redesign (UNVERIFIED) | No new failure patterns | None documented | UNVERIFIED |

Sweet-spot year: 2025 — why: post-launch cars with the widest Stellantis dealer coverage, prices settling (UK £14.5k), early-2024 teething documented so you know what to check (app pairing, screen health); the Poland-suspension saga is over. Years to skip: pre-2024 French imports — the orphaned pre-Stellantis batch with no support path and an active lawsuit around the importer; also be wary of 2024 first-EU-batch cars without confirming the infotainment/screen works.
