Chrysler Pacifica Review — Honest Take, September 2026

The Pacifica is the best minivan you can buy and the sketchiest hybrid you can buy, and which one you get depends entirely on which powertrain is under the hood. The gas van is the last great American minivan — Stow 'n Go seats, a calm upscale cabin, room for seven, and a V6 with nothing to prove. The hybrid is a vehicle with three fire recalls, a discontinued-for-2026 status, and a Consumer Reports reliability record that has been poor every single year it has existed. Same badge, same sliding doors, completely different risk.

The gas Pacifica first, because it's the one to buy. The 3.6-liter Pentastar makes 287 horsepower through a nine-speed automatic, front- or all-wheel drive, and it's the known quantity — the same old soldier that powers half this cluster. For 2026 the lineup runs $44,445 (Select) to about $61,000 (Pinnacle), with the Limited at $50,100 widely cited as the sweet spot: Nappa leather, heated and ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, hands-free liftgate. Owners in the 8,000-member Facebook group post the normal minivan stuff — seat-cover recommendations, maintenance-cost questions, a 2017 Touring L with 178,000 miles and no check-engine lights asking what it's worth. One September 2026 post sums up the satisfied majority: four years, 91,000 km, kids named the van "big bertha," still loving it, 42 reactions.

The gas van's problem list is the familiar Pentastar-and-Stellantis menu. The oil-cooler/filter-housing leak is the engine's signature failure — a September 2026 post shows a 2018 owner fresh off an oil cooler, plugs, coil packs, and PCV replacement, watching the coolant level still drop with no visible leak. Dual-battery electrical gremlins: a 2022 with 36,000 miles posted in September about the rear hatch refusing to open from inside, door locks misbehaving, and intermittent no-crank no-start — dealer found the main battery dead. Rear AC blend-door and evaporator failures on the older vans. UConnect glitches. None of it is exotic; all of it is budgetable on a used buy with a pre-purchase inspection.

The hybrid is where the review turns into a warning label. In June 2026, Chrysler recalled 17,277 Pacifica plug-in hybrids from 2020–2022 (NHTSA campaign 26V362): the high-voltage battery can fail internally and start a fire even with the vehicle parked and off. Four fires logged since August 2023. Owners were told to park outside, away from structures, and stop charging. The battery warranty was extended to unlimited years and unlimited mileage, which is generous and also an admission. That was the third fire-related recall for the Pacifica Hybrid — 2022, 2024, 2026 — on top of the 2017–2021 battery-cell recall, the 12-volt corroded-connection fires, a hybrid engine-shutdown software fix, and a 2025 recall for loose brake bolts that could leak brake fluid. Consumer Reports has rated the Hybrid poorly for reliability every year. Stellantis discontinued the Pacifica Hybrid at the start of 2026. When the manufacturer kills the program, the third fire recall lands, and the reliability record is a straight line of red, the debate is over.

The social pulse reflects the split exactly. The gas owners post maintenance questions and mileage brags. The hybrid posts are charge-port doors falling off, battery warnings, and recall paperwork. Nobody in the group is surprised by either pattern anymore.

Value call: buy the gas van. A 2023–2024 gas Pacifica is the sweet spot — post-refresh, settled, before the 2026 price walk — and the 2026 Select at $44,445 is fairly priced against a Sienna or Odyssey if you want new. Avoid 2017–2018 (recall pile, transmission failures) and avoid every hybrid unless it's a 2023+ at a steep discount with every recall verified — and even then, understand you're buying the program Stellantis abandoned. The leftover new 2026 Hybrids selling $2,660–$3,160 under MSRP are cheap for a reason.

The honest bottom line: the Pacifica is two vehicles — a great minivan and a rolling recall notice. Buy the V6, skip the plug, check the oil cooler, and enjoy the best third row in the business.
