Alfa Romeo Junior — Research File (September 2026)

What the car is

Alfa Romeo's B-segment crossover (4.17 m), launched 2024 on the STLA Small (e-CMP) platform, built in Tychy, Poland — sibling to the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600 and Peugeot 2008. Launched as the "Milano", renamed "Junior" in April 2024 after the Italian government objected to an Italian name on a Polish-built car. Powertrains: Elettrica 156 (115 kW/156 hp, 54 kWh, ~410 km WLTP / 200–247 mi UK band, 100 kW DC); Elettrica Veloce 280 (207 kW/280 hp, sport chassis); Ibrida 136/145 (1.2 turbo 48V eDCT). 400 L boot, 5 seats. UK pricing: Elettrica from £35,695 — pricey next to its Stellantis siblings (Fiat 600e, e-2008), the Kia EV3, Volvo EX30 and Renault 4. French pricing ~€39,000+ (UNVERIFIED). Not sold in the US or China.

Social-first owner evidence

Facebook groups: no dedicated Junior owner group surfaced via public-group search (Sept 2026) — disclosed gap; Threads/Instagram returned press material only. Owner evidence is thin — a few italpassion.fr owners plus journalist long-termers:

  • italpassion.fr owners: one Ibrida owner (23,000 km, 18 months): "No problems." Another (1 month, Sept 2025): "the screens were turning off, Apple CarPlay was working whenever it felt like it... the central display was glitching all the time (even though a lot of functions are controlled through it). In short, the electronics aren't up to par at all" — but "a nice little car, comfortable and fun to drive." A third: "nothing but problems with the dashboard turning itself off... no solution yet. The speed sensors are unreliable, the brakes are mediocre." An Elettrica owner (11,000 km): no issues so far.
  • Fleet World long-term (Nat Barnes, Elettrica): "small, efficient, still a relatively rare sight... decent 248-mile range... perfect for what I need" — 4.0 mpkWh real-world efficiency.
  • EVs Unplugged long-term: today's Alfas "far better made and more reliable than they probably have been" — but idiosyncrasies persist: no grab handles/coat hooks, and the internal boot-release button sits on the ceiling next to the SOS button.
  • What Car?: "quite pricey... more expensive than the Kia EV3 and Volvo EX30 (albeit only slightly), and way more expensive than the Renault 4"; Alfa brand 17th of 30 in the 2025 Reliability Survey — "decent". No Euro NCAP rating yet. No DVSA recalls as of Feb 2026.

Reliability record

No pattern failures documented; the e-CMP platform and its 54 kWh drivetrain are shared with hundreds of thousands of Stellantis EVs with no major issues. The emerging complaint cluster is screens/dashboards switching off and CarPlay instability — electronic, not mechanical. The Veloce 280's harder-driven chassis is unproven long-term. Overall: thin data, no red flags yet, but the sample is small.

Support reality

3-year unlimited-mileage warranty (UK); battery 8 yr/100k — standard fare. Alfa's European dealer network is thinner than Peugeot/Citroën's, which matters if electronics need dealer-only fixes. No recalls to date is a mild positive.

Hype flags

The Milano→Junior rename saga generated more press than the car did — don't confuse coverage volume with owner enthusiasm. "Best-looking in class" press consensus is real but subjective; the price premium over mechanically identical Stellantis siblings is the objective weak spot.

Model-year timeline 2021–2026

| Year | Generation & changes | Reliability notes | Recalls/TSBs | Used-price band | | 2021 | — (didn't exist) | — | — | — | | 2022 | — (didn't exist) | — | — | — | | 2023 | — (didn't exist) | — | — | — | | 2024 | Launch as Milano → renamed Junior (Apr); Elettrica 156, Veloce 280, Ibrida | First cars; screen-off complaints surface | None (DVSA, Feb 2026) | Too new / minimal used stock | | 2025 | Full sales year | Same electronic niggles; long-termers report solid efficiency | None documented | €28,000–34,000 UNVERIFIED | | 2026 | Carryover | No new data | None documented | €30,000–37,000 UNVERIFIED |

Sweet-spot year: 2025 — past the launch batch, real-world efficiency validated by long-termers, used prices softening against the pricey new list. Years to avoid: none clearly — but early-2024 cars carry the highest screen/electronics complaint density.
